| Tuesday 13th March 10.15 for 10.30am | Don Andrews | Epsom Downs. Don will lead a walk of 3 to 6
miles according to weather conditions on the day and
allowance will be made for any weaker walkers.
Members of the National Trust please have your card
etc with you as it is possible that we may transfer
to nearby Headley Heath for the walk returning
afterwards to Epsom Downs. Directions: Meet at the Car Park on Epsom Downs adjacent to small roundabout junction of Old London Road and Tattenham Corner Road (B290) entrance to car park is from Old London Road (TQ223584). This car park faces the racecourse at the Tattenham Corner end and has a small refreshment hut facing the B290. After the walk Don is suggesting a three course lunch in a nearby Spanish Restaurant which has always in the past provided very good food and service. Wives who may not wish to walk are invited to join us for the meal as also other members who have had to give up walking for various reasons. |
| Tuesday 1st May 11.00 for 11.15am | Peter Dulley | Frensham Great Pond A walk of 8 km (5 miles) with a mid-way stop for lunch. From Hindhead, head north west on the A287 (Churt Road). In 4 miles, after passing through Churt, turn left into Pond Lane. At the Frensham Pond Hotel, follow the road round to the right and after a quarter of a mile turn into the National Trust car park on the right. Assemble by the Ranger Hut/Café/Toilets (Grid Reference SU845405). The walk passes through the village of Spreakley then along a ridge with fine views to reach the Bluebell Inn near Dockenfield where we will have lunch. The return path passes Frensham Manor and then follows an attractive riverside path to the Pond and car park. |

Meet at the Stepping Stones P/H car park Westhumble Street (off of A24 London Road just south of the Boxhill roundabout and accessible from either carriageway) RH5 6BS Landranger TQ170517. We will move on from here at 10.15am, by car to the car park in Polesden Lacey where N.T. Members get free parking by displaying their 2012 Parking Ticket. Meet by visitors entrance adjacent to shop and café on left and toilet block on right. The walk will be via fields and footpaths / bridleways etc. on the estate. There will be two steep slopes but there are some benches where it may be possible to stop briefly. There are several gates on route but I didn't encounter any stiles when I did a trial run, but there is scope to vary the route. After the walk we will return to the Stepping Stones Pub for lunch and to meet up with any other walkers who are currently having medical problems but would like to join us for the meal. Note. - Drive with care on the minor roads in this area as cyclists are taking over, particularly at this time when the Olympic course includes nearby Boxhill. |
